Pc vs Mac
An unfailingly polite lady called to ask for help with a Windows installation that had gone terribly wrong.
Customer: "I brought my Windows disks from work to install them on my home computer." Training stresses that we are "not the Software Police," so I let the little act of piracy slide.
Tech Support: "Umm-hmm. What happened?"
Customer: "As I put each disk in it turns out they weren't initialized."
Tech Support: "Do you remember the message exactly, ma'am?"
Customer: (proudly) "I wrote it down. 'This is not a Macintosh disk. Would you like to initialize it?'"
Tech Support: "Er, what happened next?"
Customer: "After they were initialized, all the disks appeared to be blank. And now I brought them back to work, and I can't read them in the A: drive; the PC wants to format them. And this is our only set of Windows disks for the whole office. Did I do something wrong?"
Management & Engineers
A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below.
She descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am."
The man below replied "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist. "I am", replied the man.
"How did you know?"
"Well, answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip even more."
The man below responded, "You must be in management."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the man, "You don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems?!!"
Different Ideas
A project manager, a computer programmer and a computer operator are driving down the road when the car they are in gets a flat tire. The three men try to solve the problem.
The project manager said: "Let's catch a cab and in ten minutes we'll reach our destination."
The computer programmer said: "We have here the driver's guide. I can easily replace the flat tire and continue our drive."
The computer operator said: "First of all, let's turn off the engine and turn it on again. Maybe it will fix the problem."
Suddenly a Microsoft software engineer passed by and said: "Try to close all windows, get off the car, and then get in and try again."
Enginners
One day, a Mechanical Engineer, an Electrical Engineer, a Chemical
Engineer and a Software Engineer were driving down the street in the
same car.
The car broke down.
The Mechanical Engineer said, "I think a rod broke. We can check the rods."
The Chemical Engineer said, "The way it sputtered at the end, I don't think it's getting gas. We shall check the gas tank."
The Electrical Engineer said, "I think there was a spark and something is wrong with the electrical system. We shall check the circuitry."
All three turned to the computer engineer and said, "What do you think?"
The Computer Engineer said, "We shall get out of the car and get in again."
Computer Equipment
A three-year study was just completed on how different nationalities treat their computer equipment. The study found the following:
The Japanese are most likely to clean their keyboards after every use.
The Americans are most likely to spill food on their keyboards.
The Ukranians use their keyboards for spare parts for their TV's.
The Germans are most likely to pound on their keyboards.
The French are most likely to give their keyboards to the Germans without a struggle.
Job Test
Two young engineers applied for a single position at a computer company. They both had the same qualifications. In order to determine which individual to hire, the applicants were asked to take a test by the Department manager.
Upon completion of the test, both men missed only one of the questions. The manager went to the first applicant and said, "Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to give the job to the other applicant."
"And why would you be doing that? We both got 9 questions correct," asked the rejected applicant.
"We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed," said the Department manager.
"And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?" the rejected applicant inquired.
"Simple," said the Department manager, "Your fellow applicant put down on question #5, 'I don't know.' You put down, 'Neither do I.'"
Copyright
My old boss had spent some time writing software packages for this
particular program. The software usually came as source code and was
executed through an interpreter. He started a small business selling his
custom software. One day at a scientific meeting, he noticed another
company was showing the software with *remarkably* similar functionality
as his own.
He wandered over to watch the demo and the longer he watched, the more familiar it looked. Eventually, when the sales gerbil had gathered a good crowd, he asked in a rather loud voice,
"Are you using my copyrighted copy for this?" "Of course not!" the sales gerbil replied.
"So, what happens if you press [key combination]?"
"Nothing."
"Well, humor me. Do it for me."
"Ok, sir, but I can assure it you does . . ." and upon pressing the keys . . . the large screen popped up my boss' copyright notice. It was widely accepted as the biggest laugh of the show.
Problem with new PC
I recently purchased a new PC from one of the major computer manufacturers. I placed my order via the web but asked for them to call me for my credit card information. So, after a couple days of phone tag, I got in touch with the saleswoman handling my account. I was thinking I'd just give her my credit card number and be on my way. Almost.
Saleswoman: "Do you realize that the modem you've chosen doesn't have sound support?"
Customer: "What exactly does a ‘modem with no sound support’ mean?"
Saleswoman: "It means that if you go to a web page that has a movie or sound file, you won't be able to hear it."
Customer: "What does the modem have to do with that?"
Saleswoman: "Well, sir, the modem is what connects your computer to the Internet."
Customer: "So, you're telling me that this particular modem scans the TCP/IP packets passing through it for those belonging to any sound application and filters them out?"
Saleswoman: "Yes."
Customer: "How does it accomplish this feat?"
Saleswoman: "I'm not technical enough to answer that. Please hold." I stayed on hold for five minutes and hung up.
Do you need customer service?
upport employee (now I know why they record these conversations). "Rich Hall computer assistance; may I help you?"
"Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."
"What sort of trouble?"
"Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."
"Went away?"
"They disappeared."
"Hmmm.. So what does your screen look like now?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"It's a blank; it won' t accept anything when I type."
"Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?"
"How do I tell?"
"Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?"
"What's a sea-prompt?"
"Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?"
"There isn't any cursor: I told you, it won't accept anything I type."
"I don't know."
"Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?"
"Yes, I think so."
"Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall."
"Yes, it is."
"When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?"
"No."
"Well , there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."
"Okay, here it is."
"Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely intothe back of your computer."
"I can't reach."
"Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?"
"No."
"Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?"
"Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle it's because it's dark."
"Dark?"
"Yes, the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window."
"Well, turn on the office light then."
"I can't."
"No? Why not?"
"Because there's a power failure."
"A power....... A power failure?..... Aha, Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?"
"Well, yes, I keep them in the closet."
"Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."
"Really? Is it that bad?"
"Yes, I'm afraid it is."
"Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?"
"Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer."
Tech support
Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?"
Tech: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?"
Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period.
How do I go about getting that fixed?"
Tech: "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?"
Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer."
Tech: "Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped. It's because I am.
Did you receive this as part of a promotional, at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?"
Caller: "It came with my computer, I don't know anything about a promotional.
It just has '4X' on it. "At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because he couldn't stand it. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off the drive!
Microsoft waiter
Patron: Waiter!
Waiter: Hi, my name is Bill, and I'll be your Support Waiter. What seems to be the problem?
Patron: There's a fly in my soup!
Waiter: Try again, maybe the fly won't be there this time.
Patron: No, it's still there.
Waiter: Maybe it's the way you're using the soup; try eating it with a fork instead.
Patron: Even when I use the fork, the fly is still there.
Waiter: Maybe the soup is incompatible with the bowl; what kind of bowl are you using?
Patron: A SOUP bowl!
Waiter: Hmmm, that should work. Maybe it's a configuration problem; how was the bowl set up?
Patron: You brought it to me on a saucer; what has that to do with the fly in my soup?!
Waiter: Can you remember everything you did before you noticed the fly in your soup?
Patron: I sat down and ordered the Soup of the Day!
Waiter: Have you considered upgrading to the latest Soup of the Day?

Smart Traveler
A airport fancy smart traveler was carrying two heavy suitcases in the terminal.
A fellow passerby approached him and asked him what time it was.
The fancy traveler bends down, rest his two heavy suitcases on the floor and looks at his watch. He pushes a tiny button and a beautiful woman's face appears.
He asks her, "Mary, what time is it?" Mary gives him the time instantly and that too with an attractive smile!
The passerby was highly impressed!
He inquires. "What kind of a watch is that?"
"It's like a TV with two-way real-time communication," the traveler explains.
He adds that the watch is the latest technology with Intel's brand new 128-bit chip with processor speed of 12 Gigs.
The passerby is now quite impressed and wanted to know if he could buy this watch from the traveler. They agreed on a price and the cash was handed immediately. The traveler takes his watch out and hands it over and then walks away.
The passerby now the new owner stares at the two heavy suitcases and shouts, "Sir, you forgot your suitcases."
The smart traveler stops, and replies, "No, they are yours now," then smiles cunningly and adds, "They are the modems you need for your new watch. the one you just bought, enjoy!"
